Use in the Garden and Landscape

The use of pebbles in the garden and landscape is multifaceted. One of the most widespread applications is the creation of paths and soft floors: pebbles are laid on a bed of sand or concrete, creating aesthetically interesting and durable walking surfaces. Particularly popular is the "mosaic" arrangement technique, where pebbles of different colours and sizes form geometric or decorative patterns inspired by nature (plants, flowers, leaves, branches).
Another important area of application is ground cover around plants and trees. Placing a layer of pebbles as mulch reduces moisture evaporation, inhibits weed growth, and at the same time produces a neat and presentable result. This technique is particularly effective in xeriscape gardens, where water conservation is a priority.

Pebbles are also widely used in the creation of dry creek beds, a technique inspired by the Japanese garden, where the flow of water is simulated through the deliberate placement of stones and pebbles. These arrangements, in addition to their decorative value, also function as drainage systems for rainwater runoff.
Related to the above is also the use of pebbles in bioclimatic applications and stormwater management systems. Their permeable surfaces facilitate water infiltration into the soil, reducing runoff and supporting sustainable water-resource management.
Particularly popular materials are pebbles in actual water features, such as ponds, waterfalls, and artificial streams. Their use on the banks and at the bottom creates a natural appearance, improves the aesthetic quality of the constructions, and contributes to the stabilization of the surfaces.
