Lemon Beebrush (Lippia citriodora) Herb Plant

The Lemon Beebrush or Lemon Verbena (Lippia citriodora, syn. Aloysia citrodora) is a perennial, aromatic plant of the Verbenaceae family. Although it originates from the tropical regions of South America, it is cultivated successfully in areas with a Mediterranean climate. It is a semi-evergreen or deciduous shrub, of medium growth rate, with lanceolate and serrate leaves, of a nice green color. From the leaves emerges the strong smell of lemon - hence its popular name Lemon Beebrush. It has white or white-pink flowers, which are borne in panicle inflorescences, of minimal decorative value. The flowering is observed from the beginning of the summer until the Autumn. Lemon Beebrush can be planted in the ground or in pots and its cultivation presents no difficulties. Both the leaves of Louisa and the flowers are used for culinary purposes (tea, desserts, fruit salads and jams), as well as for the preparation of perfumes, cosmetics, and medicines.
