Century Plant (Agave americana) Succulent - Cacti & Succulents. Perennial evergreen succulent with particular decorative value, which forms offshoots over time. It is a monocarpic species, which means that it blooms only once in its life (after 10 years or more), bears fruit and then dies. However, its place does not remain empty precisely because of the growth of offshoots, which develop into new plants. The Century Plant has a slow growth rate, medium size, and a spherical shape. Its glaucous or glaucous green leaves, spreading from the top of a short and thick stem in a rosette arrangement, are rigidly arched. Their shape is elongated lanceolate, with wavy to thoothed margins, from which small sharp spines are borne. Each leaf ends at the apex in a particularly sharp and large spine, up to 5 cm long, dark brown. The Century Plant when in bloom displays a striking thick and green paniculate inflorescence, 3 to 9 meters tall, which remains and grows for several months. The flowers are hermaphrodite, tubular, 6-lobed and yellow in color. They are succeeded by brown many-seeded capsule fruits, 4 to 5 cm long. The Century Plant (Agave americana) is a hardy xerophyte plant suitable for potting, for gravel or stony garden soil or for rock gardens. It is used in both gardening and landscape architecture to create, among other things, dry landscape compositions (xeriscaping). When planting, care is taken not to choose locations that are less than 2 meters from paths and corridors.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the succulent, such as the size of the pot, its height, and age. Large succulents are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
